The premise of Sage Kids is a stepping stone for Sage Farms. An adult living facility for our loved ones with autism. Our goal is to have Sage Farms up and running by 2025. I know that may seem like a long time, but in the big picture, it's not. We are going to need a committee of dedicated volunteers to help. We want to hear what you have to say, what you envision and how we can work together to make this a reality. The reason it is being called a farm, is simple. Our loved ones will be growing strawberries, blueberries...you name it, and selling them at local farmers markets, as well as other day program opportunities. Sage Farms will be self-sufficient. If you are interested in helping on the committee, email email@example.com and follow the Sage Kids page on Facebook. We are constantly evolving and growing and will continue to need more and more help if we want this to become a reality for our loved ones. Thank you. We welcome and encourage everyone at sagekids.org.
Over the years from both kids and adults alike the number one regret they have is they never learned from traditional educational services real life practical skills. Let me be clear, I am in no way criticizing teachers or the public education system. They do the very best they can with the budget and policies that they are given. It is often thankless, but they continue to do it and they have our heartfelt gratitude.
Along with these skills we have heard from parents, how do we get a company to see past my child's disability and instead of only seeing what he can't do to see what HE can do. This all too often, is a huge problem for adults with a disability seeking employment. We want to work with employers to help them see past the disability and see what the client CAN do...not what they cannot do. While there are many state run programs available, and we have used them ourselves, their resources are stretched thin and here, at, Sage Kids, we want to be able to offer more.
Although math, science, social studies and language arts are vital educational services, we believe there are hundreds of other life skills that are also important. And to a child and many adults with a disability just coping in society can be a major challenge. Not just for the child, but for the parent and caregiver as well. To some these may sound simple. To others these are a daily struggle and with patience and calm, can be managed. Peer to peer enrichment is vital at sagekids.org and a corner stone of our philosophy.
Incorporating integrity enrichment into all aspects of our organization, we see beyond the disability and only see the ability.
Sage Kids is a nonprofit organization. Our goal is to offer our workshops for free. We count on donations from people like you and our sponsors to make that happen. Every penny helps. Donate today! Thank you!
